Summary:
Seeking a hands-on, technical expert to lead the design and evolution of metagenomic data processing pipelines. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to extract insights from complex biological data, requiring strong coding skills and a passion for rapid iteration and problem-solving.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable pipelines for metagenomic data analysis, ensuring robustness and efficiency.
- Implement and maintain rigorous versioning and change control practices across all workflows and codebases.
- Investigate and apply novel algorithms and data structures for advanced microbial community analysis.
- Work closely with laboratory scientists and software engineers to prototype and deploy new analytical features.
- Benchmark, debug, and optimize existing bioinformatics analysis methods for improved performance.
- Contribute to strategic decisions regarding data infrastructure and selection of analytical tools.
- Drive innovation by exploring new computational approaches and integrating them into existing workflows.
- Support the continuous improvement of data processing pipelines through rapid iteration and feedback.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated curiosity and passion for biology, data, and complex systems.
- Proven experience in bioinformatics or computational biology, with a track record of innovative problem-solving.
- Strong skills in version control, reproducibility, and change tracking (e.g., Git, Docker, Snakemake, Nextflow).
- Proficiency in C programming and ability to work across both low-level and high-level languages.
- Experience working with metagenomic datasets, including shotgun sequencing and taxonomic classification.
- Solid understanding of statistics and computational methods relevant to microbial ecology.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and iterate quickly.
- Experience with cloud-based bioinformatics platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source bioinformatics tools are desirable.
- Familiarity with containerization, CI/CD practices, or hybrid wet/dry-lab environments is advantageous.
