Job Title: Microbiologist I

Summary:
The Microbiologist I is responsible for conducting microbiological, chemical, and physical tests to ensure quality control of processes and products. This role involves analyzing materials, preparing reagents, maintaining documentation, and supporting investigations related to out-of-specification results.
Responsibilities:
- Perform microbiological, chemical, and physical testing on materials and products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Compile and analyze test data to assess process efficiency and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
- Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents necessary for laboratory testing procedures.
- Assist in investigations of out-of-specification results, document root cause analyses, and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all testing activities and results.
- Recommend improvements to testing procedures and equipment usage to enhance laboratory operations.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet testing schedules and resolve work-related issues as they arise.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience or coursework in microbiology, quality control, chemical testing, and reagent preparation preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, write reports, and communicate effectively with team members and management.
- Strong mathematical skills, including knowledge of exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and statistical analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, email, inventory software, database software, and related laboratory management systems.
- Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions from technical instructions and abstract variables.
- Physical ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, stand and walk frequently, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Comfortable working in a moderate noise environment and occasionally near moving mechanical parts.
