Job Title: Applications Scientist, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

Work Location: Middlesex County, Massachusetts

Summary:

Seeking a motivated Applications Scientist to advance and support a portable VIS-NIR product line utilized in various industries such as mining, agriculture, and research. This role involves applying scientific expertise to diverse applications using advanced handheld and portable instrumentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in analytical interpretation and applications of portable VIS-NIR instrumentation to drive business growth.
  • Collaborate with sales teams and customers to address application requirements and resolve analytical and calibration challenges using chemometrics and machine learning models.
  • Contribute to algorithm development through characterization testing, data analysis, and close cooperation with product development teams.
  • Provide demonstrations and training sessions for customers to support the sales process.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for calibration procedures and analytical quality assurance protocols.
  • Offer calibration and analytical support to manufacturing operations as needed.
  • Identify, refine, and document new applications and custom calibrations, preparing reports for both internal and external audiences.
  • Build foundational technical knowledge of complementary analytical techniques such as XRF and LIBS.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Physics, Geology, Chemistry, or a related hard science required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with spectroscopy and/or analytical instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret VIS-NIR spectra in industry or instrumentation environments.
  • Proficiency in chemometric modeling and/or machine learning algorithms for spectroscopy applications.
  • Background in spectral geology is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, experimental, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.
