Job Title: Controls/Automation Engineer
Work Location: Ramsey County, New Jersey
Summary:
This role focuses on the development, testing, and commissioning of advanced control system applications, including PLC and SCADA systems. The position requires expertise in control system hardware, instrumentation, and software, as well as the ability to support project teams and provide customer service and technical support.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and commission PLC and SCADA control system applications, including advanced features such as analog data handling, scripting, and database interfacing.
- Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation, including both field and panel-mounted devices.
- Read, develop, and review control system design documents and drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Set up, configure, and test computers and related hardware/software for control system integration and virtualization.
- Travel overnight (approximately 10%) to customer sites for commissioning, training, validation, and service support.
- Develop and execute software test protocols and simulation code for system validation and troubleshooting.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, including commissioning reports, service logs, and technical specifications.
- Support project teams by communicating project status, providing technical support, and ensuring high-quality automation solutions for customers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or engineering technology.
- Minimum of three years of experience in control system design and programming.
- Recent hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLC (ControlLogix and/or PLC-5) and SCADA (Wonderware and/or GE iFix) systems.
- Proficiency in developing, testing, and commissioning control system applications, including scripting, security, and database configuration.
- Ability to specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation.
- Experience with control system design documents, drawings, and standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel overnight as required.
- Confined space entry training or willingness to obtain it.
- Awareness of cGMP procedures and practices as they relate to control systems.
- Prior experience in validation is desirable.
