Job Title: Site Quality Director
Work Location: Worcester County, Massachusetts
Summary:
The Site Quality Director is responsible for building and leading the Quality organization at a new advanced manufacturing facility specializing in mass-production of 3D-printed titanium components. This role oversees the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring all production, metrology, metallurgical testing, and product qualification activities meet stringent requirements. The position requires close collaboration with operations and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement and scalable quality systems for long-term growth.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a growing quality team across a 24/7 manufacturing environment, ensuring effective execution in QC, metrology, metallurgical testing, and sustaining quality as production scales.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust site Quality Management System (QMS) that supports both technical standards and high-volume throughput.
- Drive stable production quality on the shop floor, focusing on defect reduction, root cause analysis, and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee new product qualification, including technical strategy for inspection development, CMM programming, GR&R studies, and process capability analysis.
- Establish and manage advanced metrology and metallurgical testing capabilities to assess the integrity of complex titanium components.
- Implement data-driven quality metrics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and automated reporting systems to monitor process performance, yield, and scrap rates.
- Support customer audits, technical reviews, and rapid resolution of quality issues, collaborating closely with engineering and operations teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence to achieve aggressive commercial launch goals.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of manufacturing quality experience in high-volume environments (such as Consumer Electronics, Automotive, or similar industries) with complex metal components.
- 5+ years of senior management experience leading multi-disciplinary quality, inspection, or laboratory teams during rapid plant expansions.
- Expertise in product qualification frameworks, including automated CMM workflows, GR&R studies, capability analysis, and advanced GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of physical metallurgy, destructive/non-destructive testing (NDT), and laboratory practices, especially with high-performance metals like titanium.
- Proven ability to manage site operations and lead large teams within a matrixed or Business Unit structure, aligning with engineering teams in alternate reporting lines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience building and scaling large factory quality organizations during rapid volume expansion, ideally with metal additive manufacturing or advanced surface finishing.
- Certified Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt with a record of leading large-scale continuous improvement projects in fast-paced consumer programs.
