Director, Commercial Strategy — Biopharmaceutical
Work Location: Greater Chicago area (hybrid)
Summary:
Our client, a leading global biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a strategic leader to drive commercial and business innovation initiatives within a high-growth specialty therapeutic area. This role focuses on shaping business strategy, partnering with cross-functional teams, and supporting both marketed and pre-launch products to drive growth and patient impact.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of commercial strategies across a specialty product portfolio, aligned with long-term business goals.
- Partner with brand teams on launch planning and go-to-market strategy for new products.
- Support enterprise strategic planning efforts, including long-range planning, opportunity assessments, and portfolio roadmaps.
- Scope and manage high-priority strategic projects from concept through execution.
- Drive operational effectiveness in partnership with functions such as Finance, HR, Medical, and Market Access.
- Prepare and present business reviews and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Build strong working relationships across internal teams to support integrated strategic initiatives.
- Influence and align stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or MD) preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience (less with an advanced degree).
- Prior experience in management consulting, pipeline strategy, or pharmaceutical marketing strongly preferred.
- Background in pharma R&D, corporate strategy, brand management, or commercial marketing.
- Experience supporting specialty or biologics products, both marketed and in development.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and financial acumen, including P&L understanding.
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
- Proven success working in matrixed teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong relationship-building, problem-solving, and influencing skills.
- Self-starter with intellectual curiosity and adaptability.
- Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills.
- Pre-launch, launch, or in-market commercial experience preferred.
