Job Title: Scientist I, Protein Sciences

Summary:
Seeking a motivated and adaptable research scientist to join a Protein Sciences group. This laboratory-based position involves maintaining cell culture workflows, performing DNA plasmid preparations, expressing and purifying biologics, and conducting characterization assays to support a discovery pipeline. The ideal candidate is highly organized, process-oriented, and capable of analyzing, interpreting, and presenting experimental results to project teams.
Responsibilities:
- Execute expression and purification of biologic candidates, including monoclonal antibodies, from mammalian cell cultures.
- Participate in the design and development of purification methods for monoclonal antibodies, Fc-fusion proteins, and bispecific molecules.
- Conduct bacterial and mammalian cell culture for DNA preparation and protein expression.
- Perform routine cloning and plasmid preparation tasks to support laboratory workflows.
- Utilize FPLC systems to express and purify proteins at various scales, from milligram to gram quantities.
- Support quality analysis and characterization of biologics through established assays and protocols.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure accurate, detailed electronic record-keeping of experiments.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, supporting multiple pipeline projects and adapting to new challenges as needed.
Qualifications:
- PhD or BA/BS/MS in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience; pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as Gibson cloning, plasmid preparation, and sequence analysis.
- Experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture, including transformation and transfection (HEK/CHO).
- Familiarity with generating and maintaining stable CHO cell lines is preferred.
- Expertise in protein purification techniques, including AKTA FPLC, affinity, IMAC, and preparative SEC.
- Knowledge of protein analysis methods such as endotoxin assays, analytical SEC, and SDS-PAGE/CE-SDS.
- Strong organizational skills for planning and executing experiments, with the ability to communicate results effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, matrix environment.
