Job Title: Scientist 1 – Automation and Biochemistry Scientist
Work Location: Middlesex County, MA
Summary:
Seeking a skilled scientist with expertise in automation and biochemistry to drive the development and implementation of advanced automation technologies and biochemical assays. This role focuses on enhancing discovery workflows and collaborating across scientific disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Align automation initiatives with group objectives to support in vitro pharmacology research.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new automation technologies in partnership with internal teams and external vendors.
- Develop and optimize high-throughput automation workflows for both biochemical and cellular screening activities, including troubleshooting instrumentation.
- Establish and maintain a program for the upkeep and troubleshooting of key laboratory equipment such as liquid handlers, plate readers, and integrated robotic platforms.
- Design, implement, and validate protocols for biochemical and cellular assays on robotic systems.
- Transfer and adapt established assays onto automated platforms using scheduling software.
- Train laboratory users and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance workflow efficiency and process optimization.
- Develop and deploy biochemical assays to support structure-activity relationship studies and high-throughput screening for hit identification.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in automation for biochemical and/or cellular assays or a related scientific discipline.
- Extensive background in laboratory automation, including the design, delivery, and operation of integrated robotic platforms.
- Proven expertise with laboratory equipment supporting preclinical discovery activities, such as multimodal plate readers, liquid handlers, and cell culture processes.
- Demonstrated experience in workflow optimization and process efficiency improvements.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a history of working on interdisciplinary projects.
- Ability to train and mentor users on laboratory equipment and automation systems.
- Interest in exploring new technologies and collaborating with vendors for technology implementation.
- Experience coding workflows for automated scheduling software and liquid handling systems (e.g., Cellario, Momentum, Green Button Go, Venus, Evoware).
- Experience in designing and developing biochemical assays for small molecule evaluation.
