Job Title: QC Chemist I/II

Work Location: Morris County, New Jersey

Summary:

Seeking a QC Chemist I/II to perform analytical testing, maintain laboratory systems, and ensure compliance with quality standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with various laboratory instruments, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analytical testing using instruments such as densitometer, refractometer, colorimeter, polarimeter, gas chromatograph, and gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer.
  • Perform organoleptic evaluations and render disposition decisions based on results, including passing an organoleptic proficiency test.
  • Maintain laboratory management systems, accurately record and report analytical results, and update systems as required by procedures.
  • Investigate non-conformances, analyze test data to determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions while communicating technical information to stakeholders.
  • Provide documentation and information such as specifications and certificates of analysis upon request.
  • Maintain and organize laboratory work areas, clean and validate instruments, and ensure equipment is routinely serviced according to procedures.
  • Execute all requirements for ISO 9001 compliance and remain accountable for responsibilities defined by ISO 9001 process flows.
  • Perform troubleshooting and basic maintenance on laboratory instruments, and conduct investigative work to identify adulteration in essential oils or resolve technical issues.

Qualifications:

  • College degree with 2+ years of experience in a Quality Control environment.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as densitometer, refractometer, colorimeter, polarimeter, gas chromatograph, and gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer.
  • Strong understanding of gas chromatograph and gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer fundamentals, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of GC software programs (e.g., Chemstation, OpenLab, MassHunter).
  • Competency with computers, including word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Understanding of wet chemistry practices, including titrations, standard preparation, and blending of lab batches; ability to perform substitutions of raw materials in production batches.
  • Must pass an organoleptic proficiency test with a score of at least 80%.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to perform tasks with limited supervision.
  • Previous color work experience is a plus.
