Job Title: Research Associate I/II, Molecular Biology

Work Location: Middlesex County, Massachusetts

Summary:

Join a dynamic team focused on advancing programmable medicines through innovative nucleic acid therapeutics. This position offers the opportunity to work with experienced scientists and engineers, contributing to the design, synthesis, purification, and testing of novel therapeutics. Be part of a collaborative environment that values creativity and technical expertise in molecular biology.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and prepare DNA templates for RNA production, including primer and oligonucleotide design, PCR, and sequence verification.
  • Perform in vitro transcription (IVT) to produce RNA, incorporating capping, polyadenylation, DNase treatment, and modified nucleotides as needed.
  • Purify nucleic acids using various methods such as precipitation, spin-column, filtration, magnetic-bead cleanup, and HPLC.
  • Characterize nucleic acids for identity, purity, and integrity using gel-based imaging, capillary electrophoresis, HPLC, and UV/fluorometric quantitation.
  • Conduct molecular biology assays including RT-qPCR, RNA stability and degradation testing, and sample preparation for sequencing.
  • Support assays related to small molecule and RNA interactions, including RNA folding, thermal denaturation, and structure stability experiments.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records in electronic lab notebooks, analyze data, and present findings to the team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance platform development and contribute to a fast-paced, innovative research environment.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  • BS with 3+ years or MS with 1+ year of relevant industry or research experience.
  • Hands-on experience in nucleic acid production, purification, and analytical characterization.
  • Proficiency in core molecular biology techniques, including PCR, in vitro transcription, RT-qPCR, gel and capillary electrophoresis, and HPLC.
  • Experience handling RNA with RNase-free technique; familiarity with RNA secondary structure, folding, and stability is a plus.
  • Exposure to small molecule x RNA, RNA-targeting, or oligonucleotide therapeutic programs preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Competence with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving research environment.
